Agonies of Choosing and Weeks of Silence. About Extracurriculars.
8 October 2020
In Letovo, the second half of the day is usually action-packed to the fullest: here, one can find sports activities, hobby groups, club meetings, lectures of guests, film shows, and much more. But this week, it is unusually quiet in the school — and it’s for a reason: “the week of silence” is intended to let Letovo students choose what additional courses they will attend throughout this academic year. The past years’ experience shows that sometimes students try to bite off more than they can chew and choose too many courses — since it’s too difficult to abandon what is so interesting! Thus, they rapidly wear themselves out trying to have their cake and eat it, too. To make a conscious choice based on the academic workload, the “week of silence” was introduced. The two weeks preceding it were the trial period: every student could attend a group, classes, or courses they were interested in, meet the teachers, see how training is conducted, and understand if this option suits them. This is the time when students think, compare, analyze their own potential, and consult tutors — and only then do they make a final decision.
