December 16, a small delegation from Letovo visited the Dmitry Rogachev Medical Center. This big hospital, where children from all Russian regions receive treatment for immunological disorders, serious cancer, or blood diseases, has its very own school. UchimZnayem School (lit. ‘LearnKnow School’) is a unique project with multiple sites in medical institutions of all sorts where children patients have to spend much time away from home and their regular schools. UchimZnayem teachers help children master the school program despite the arduous treatment they undergo and a long rehabilitation.
The Letovo delegation included Letovo’s head for innovation and development Madlena Shaginyan, CAS coordinators Keith Budd and Kira Kheifets, and two Grade 10 IB DP students Yaroslava Zarapina and Dmitry Ivanitsky. They visited the Dmitry Rogachev Medical Center to learn more about the UchimZnayem project, their work and principles, and, most importantly, to lay the groundwork for future cooperation. The Letovo delegates learned from UchimZnayem teachers that the center’s patients need tutors in various extracurricular activities – ceramics, painting, music, and many more. That is why, in 2021, a group of Letovo tenth graders will develop a project on working with children from the Dmitry Rogachev Medical Center – to share their knowledge, skills, and energy and help those who need it most.
