In March, separate waste collection was launched in Letovo. Every school wing now has containers for plastics, aluminum, glass and cardboard & paper collection established in them. Posters with thorough and detailed instructions to make collecting waste separately accessible for teachers and students have also been created. In addition, the school now has a collection of bottle caps and batteries. As the school expanded, we have been developing the facilities: additional containers have made their way to new boarding houses and the campus.
After half a year ‘EcoTechnologies’, the school’s partner in waste separation, assessed the extent to which the students got used to the system. Quoting ‘EcoTechnologies’, ‘The students managed to cope with the challenge excellently. We looked through the storage bunker for collecting waste and found well-sorted and clean materials there. Sphere of Ecology transfers waste from the school to recycling every month and doesn’t put any effort into additional sorting, as the taint of waste is only 0.2 %!’
In 6 months, the school has accumulated 5.5 tons of useful waste:
95 % – cardboard and paper
3% – plastics
2% – glass
0.1% – metal.
We are proud of how responsible Letovo’ staff, students and management have proved to be in their attitude towards waste separation.
