Skoltech Internship Program
7 June 2021
On May, 24 the "Letovo" program for students started at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. The three-week science program is a part of the Research Institute project. It was made possible thanks to the initiative of LETOVO development and innovation director Madlena Shaginyan and the interest of Skoltech first vice-rector Keith Stevenson, a specialist in analytical chemistry, electrochemistry, and materials science. The program was organized by the Institute's Strategic Communications Department at Skolkovo Tech. The goal of this program is to give high school students a real research experience. The program participants - 18 Letovo students - are assigned to four research centers according to their scientific interests: the Center of Life Sciences (CLS), the Digital Agriculture Laboratory (DAL), the Center for Computational and Data-Intensive Science and Engineering (CDISE) and the Center of Design, Manufacturing and Materials (CDMM). The first week of the program is over, goals have already been set, and the kids are doing research in modern biology, computer vision, additive manufacturing, composite materials, gas-thermal coating, and mechanical testing of samples. By working side-by-side with the specialists in innovative industries, Letovo students get a unique experience of project work. The result of this program will be the publication of theses of the scientific article in the journal and presentation of the results. A pleasant bonus for our students was the awarding of certificates for winners and prize-winners of the Academic marathon within Skoltech campus. In the biological area of this international competition - Biothon - a team of Letovo students became 3rd in the team competition.
